FreeRice continued

Hey guys, it's the FreeRice story again.

Another Ruby developer, Dave Troy, sent his computer on the quest of feeding more people, by creating a multi-threaded bot that sends 50 requests simultaneously.

I, on the other hand, was trying to make my bot behave ;) Another feature was added - adclicking. Now you can configure the bot to play nice by setting click to true in freerice.properties. At the moment the bot can only 'click' the sponsor ads. The Google ads were kinda complicated - blame Google for that - so I'll leave them untouched for now :P

FreeRice AssistantAnother cool feature is the FreeRice Assistant. Now users who don't like botting can still use this little utility
to lookup words to improve their results and donate more rice. Kinda cool huh? :)

If you like the new features, just come and get the bot from here.

Hi,

I am writing to you from the United Nations World Food Programme. I am responsible for managing the Freerice community.

While we understand that you may have been trying to help fight world hunger, your script has been highly damaging to Freerice and has serious repercussions for the people we help.

Let me explain why. Scripts and bots are harmful to our site for the following reason:

- You overload our servers and crash the site, so that real people cannot play and learn. This means less people want to play, and we raise less rice.

- You damage our reputation and discourage sponsors from supporting Freerice, making it impossible for us to pay for the rice you raise. This means we cannot provide rice to those who need it most

- At times, the bots raise more rice than we can pay for!

While it’s naturally for everyone to want to raise as much rice as possible, your script can hurt real people who truly rely on the rice we all work so hard to raise.

This is a polite request that you cease and desist with creating bots. We would welcome you on Freerice.com if you raise rice using your natural intelligence and would appreciate it if you share this message with other players who may have scripts running.

Our sites have had free rice bots as well and been hugely successful with members.
